2024 Santa Fe Officially Debuts at LA Auto Show
The Hyundai Santa Fe has been an integral part of the automaker’s lineup for years, but it has just gotten its most significant and eye-catching makeover yet. Hyundai completely redesigned the SUV for 2024, giving it striking, boxy styling, and a refreshed interior that looks torn from a much more expensive premium brand.
Hyundai offers the 2024 Santa Fe in several configurations, including the more ruggedly styled XRT variant. A turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine comes standard, making 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and front- or all-wheel drive. The available powertrain is a hybrid system with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder, making a combined 232 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic.

The big story with the new Santa Fe is its styling, which is a radical departure from anything we’ve seen out of Hyundai to date. Beyond its angular, unique shape, the SUV features an H-motif across its exterior styling. H-shaped headlights and daytime running lights highlight the front end, and the automaker offers wheel sizes up to 21 inches. The SUV has a longer wheelbase, giving it a smoother ride and more stable handling. The short front and rear overhangs give it a rugged, capable look, even if it’s destined for a life on the pavement.
Hyundai gave the Santa Fe a new interior that could easily be from a premium SUV, and it carries the same H theme from the vehicle’s exterior. Sustainable materials feature heavily in the interior, with eco-friendly materials used on the seats, dash, headliner, and gauges. The gray interior color option uses a bamboo charcoal coating method that further reduces the SUV’s carbon footprint. Hyundai gave the new Santa Fe a substantially wider tailgate, which makes loading and unloading cargo a breeze.

The Santa Fe’s upright shape affords excellent interior space, and Hyundai said the SUV offers best-in-class third-row legroom. With the optional sunroof installed, the Santa Fe offers 40.2 inches of headroom in front, 39.6 in the second row, and 37.7 in the third row. Legroom measures 41.4 inches in the front, 42.3 inches in the middle, and 30 inches in the third row. Cargo space is increased for 2024 to 40.5 cubic feet with the third row upright and 50.2 with the rear bench folded flat.
A panoramic curved glass panel houses dual 12.3-inch displays. The configurable digital gauge cluster offers crisp graphics and plenty of information, while the infotainment touchscreen brings a load of great standard features. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with USB-C charging, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, and more. Hyundai also offers a UV-C sterilization chamber in the glovebox that can clean small items like cell phones and wallets. Higher trims are available with a 12-speaker Bose stereo, and over-the-air updates come standard.
The new Santa Fe hasn’t been crash-tested yet, but its predecessor earned a Top Safety Pick + in 2022. Expect similar results from the new model, which gets updated safety tech. Standard features include forward collision warnings, parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, and more. Hyundai offers a navigation-based adaptive cruise control system that can automatically slow the vehicle when approaching curves, and a new infrared camera system can monitor the driver’s eyes to ensure they’re attentive.
Hyundai hasn’t detailed pricing for the new Santa Fe yet, but the base turbo model will arrive first, in March 2024. The hybrid follows a bit later in the spring of 2024.
